Sinopse

Investigação continuada que articula criação, pesquisa e escrita por meio de discussões transdisciplinares entre dança, tecnologias da cena, teoria de ficção, ciência e ecologia. Monstruosas Alianças é um trabalho em rede entre vídeo, figurino e corpo em movimento, na busca por deslocar o humano e se aproximar do monstro como possibilidade de outra forma de viver e morrer nas ruínas.

Synopsis

An ongoing investigation that articulates creation, research, and writing through transdisciplinary discussions between dance, performance technologies, fiction theory, science, and ecology. Monstruosas Alianças is a networked work involving video, costume, and the moving body, seeking to displace the human and approach the monster as a possibility for other ways of living and dying in the ruins.

Eu costumo dizer que Monstruosas é um projeto sonho, um projeto de investigação a longo prazo.

É um esforço de muitas frentes para produzir um trabalho, uma obra em contexto expandido, que articula compartilhamento de práticas, compartilhamento de modos de fazer e modos de pensar mesmo, a criação em dança, a criação artística.

Ele é um projeto articulado por mim, com Stéfani Belo e Hedra Rockenbach, pensando também num diálogo e uma criação onde as tecnologias da cena e as tecnologias do corpo, as tecnologias de infiltração no corpo e de um pensamento desse corpo também em contexto expandido, pensando no tudo que nos constitui enquanto o que a gente vem chamando aí de corpo, como que essas tecnologias e essas dinâmicas de modificação do corpo elas aparecem desde o começo da criação, e não num momento mais avançado do processo.

Então, um entendimento de dança e de corpo expandido que está desde o início da investigação e também numa investigação que vai se abrindo em várias frentes.

Ela articula também um conceito que Stéfani já vem desenvolvendo há um bom tempo, que é do desmonte, uma ideia de desmontar o corpo e de pensar, puxar lá a ideia de montação que vem do contexto da arte drag, para uma ideia de desmontação, para uma montaria que não está tão interessada mais no campo que é de gênero, mas também em uma transformação do corpo em algo monstruoso.

I often say that Monstruosas is a dream project — a long-term research endeavor.

It is a multi-front effort to produce a work in an expanded context, articulating the sharing of practices, ways of doing, and ways of thinking about dance-making and artistic creation itself.

The project is articulated by me, together with Stéfani Belo and Hedra Rockenbach. It proposes a dialogue and a creation process in which stage technologies and body technologies — technologies that infiltrate the body and shape the thinking of this body in an expanded context — are considered from the very beginning.

We reflect on everything that constitutes what we call the body, and how these technologies and dynamics of bodily modification appear from the start of the creative process, rather than being introduced at a later stage.

It is, therefore, an understanding of dance and the expanded body that is present from the outset of the investigation — an inquiry that unfolds across multiple fronts.

The project also articulates a concept that Stéfani has been developing for some time: the idea of “dismantling.” It involves dismantling the body and drawing from the notion of “montação” (transformation or drag embodiment) from drag art contexts, moving toward an idea of “dismantling” and re-mounting that is no longer solely concerned with gender, but with transforming the body into something monstrous.

Stéfani Belo - artista transdisciplinar e militante trans e indígena, investiga figurino por meio do projeto Clube do Desmonte.

Short biography

Gabriel Machado – artist–manager–curator, member of Selvática Ações Artísticas and La Infinita. He investigates processes of symbiosis and integration between art and science, with developments in both theoretical and artistic fields.

Hedra Rockenbach – sound designer, musician, lighting designer, and VJ. Researches the intangible as a creative possibility for dramaturgy.

Stéfani Belo – transdisciplinary artist, trans and Indigenous activist, investigates costume through the project Clube do Desmonte.
